Default just bought guildwars trilogy.

hi everyone. i just bought the guildwars triolgy purely out of impulse while watching a gw2 gameplay video. I never gave this game a try, so i decided why not, and got myself the triology.

now before i start, im the type of person that lurk on forums for 2 -3 days and finally decide what the best build for me is. So, my question to the veterens is:
1. What class should i roll with for me to breeze through the storyline? I would like to finish the storyline before i take on the pvp areas.
2. Since i have the trilogy pack in my account am i able to play a dervish ( or any other class) in the prophecy storyline??. Im more of a focus on one character type of person.

well. thats all im wondering about for now. ill be searching throughout this forum to see some other questions im wondering about. please help me answer these questions :3. thank you in advance~

I'm not elite in any way or know much but you can make a Dervish and run it through the Prophecies story line, you just can't do it like a Prophecies character would. You have to do a side quest to gain access to Lion's Arch and run back all the way to Ascalon to get access to all the zones there.

Whatever you want. All professions are fully capable of completing the content. Some may have an easier time than others, but the point of a game is to have fun so just go with whatever appeals to you the most (and remember you've got multiple character slots so you can always make a few characters and play each until you find one you're happy with).

Yes and no. Dervishes can only be created in the Nightfall campaign but after you complete a few missions you'll be able to jump over to Prophecies. However, you won't start at the beginning; you'll jump in part of the way though. You'll skip the Prophecies beginning areas essentially - you'll miss some of the Prophecies experience (especially pre-searing, which is unlike any other area in the game) but the storyline should still make sense. I'd recommend sticking to the campaign the character started in until you've finished it and then moving along. There are a lot of good reasons to play Nightfall anyway (especially for a Dervish or Paragon: all the armor crafters and skill trainers for them are in the Nightfall areas).

Just for reference:
The core professions (Elementalist, Mesmer, Monk, Necromancer, Ranger, and Warrior) can be created in any campaign. Assassins and Ritualists can only be created in Factions, and Paragons and Dervishes can only be created in Nightfall.

Ignore this advice. It's true that you can travel back through to the starter areas (except pre-searing), but all the quests prior to your arrival point are considered to have occured in the past (i.e, as you were completing your beginner quests in the Nightfall area, the quests in the Prophecies area were occuring). As a result, you will not be able to do any quests in the beginner areas of your non-native campaigns. Moving back from your arrival point achieves nothing unless you want to explore or do the missions for your titles. Not really. There are some characters who pop up in every campaign like Brother Mhenlo, but for the most part the stories are independant (though some of the content at the end of Nightfall ties in with some of the events in Prophecies and Factions).

if you want to follow the storyline, Prophecies is the start. Then Factions. And on to Nightfall. You can start in Nightfall, finish that and have lots of heroes, go back over to Prophecies and breeze through it. Find out how to do all that here.

Depends on what kind of character you want to play. They are all playable. I myself would recommend either Ranger or Warrior. Ranger has high survivability. You have a pet to take the hard knocks for you and deal good damage. Shoot things with your bow. Spread conditions. Otyugh's Cry is a must! Starting in Prophecies long ago, Ranger was my first character. Still my primary.

Warrior is pure raw power. The price for that power is you get beat up a lot and suffer from conditions and curses. But the warrior is very easy to play most of the time. Choose Sword, Axe, or Hammer. They all work.

In Prophecies you start out as a solo character. Make sure you get all the skills you can there. Monk is good for secondary so you will have a reusable rez skill for your party.

After you leave pre searing, GW turns into a party game. Either players or the henchmen found near the gates of cities and outposts. Take a full party and do all the quests; fastest way to level. And the missions. GW has a mission structure backbone.

A good guild is a very good thing if you are the social sort. if you are lone wolf you can solo the game. I am, I did, I do. But do not sneer at guilds. There are some very good ones out there.

The three different campaigns take place in different "continents" of the world. When you start a character in a specific campaign, you experience its story from the very beginning. As you progress, you reach a port city that allows you to travel to the different continents and join their story. You don't miss much other than the newbie quests. Upon reaching port cities, you can complete the campaigns in any order you wish -- all the way through, a little of each here and there. All that matters is what's comfortable/enjoyable for you.

As for choosing a character, your main choice comes down to a decision between melee (warrior, assassin, dervish), ranged physical (ranger, paragon), and ranged caster (all the rest).

Although you prefer to stick to a single character, rolling one of each to experience their general mechanics is the best way to find what you like best. All professions are capable of finishing the game. All professions can do Hard Mode. All professions can do end-game areas.

There are just some professions that are more preferred in speed clears, farming and the like. As for PvP, you're best off rolling a PvP-only character for that, after you've unlocked skills and mods in PvE.

The campaign stories do fit together, but can be done in any order. Eye of the North brings it all together; but Eye of the North does not have a starting area. You bring in a character and hopefully fully geared heroes from another campaign. Eye of the North is a bit on the tough side for someone unfamiliar with the game as a whole.

This is a game as vast as WoW, lots to learn. But all of us learned it the same way, just one thing at a time. All of the starting areas in the campaigns, Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall will do their best to bring you up to speed smoothly. The starting island on Nightfall is quite large. Sometimes people think it is the whole game! Then they discover that 80% of the Nightfall campaign awaits them on the mainland. Funny.

I'll be biased suggesting a ranger, but the thing is, thanks to Expertise, you can run anything as ranger.
You can go with bow, with shield and spear, shield and axe, dagger or as spirit spammer(caster) and do great with all those builds, also you have medium armor and the highest elemental armor.

The other questions was answered by the other already

While the above examples are true, I think it's an overstatement to say a ranger can run "anything" and do great. Expertise helps with a lot, but you'd suck trying to run a ranger minion master or a ranger healer, etc.

I love rangers, too! My first was a ranger, it's my main, and I have run a good number of non-bow builds on it. But let's not give the newbie false impressions that ranger is the answer to everything.

Ranger do have a wide range of play options, not ALL of them :P

well depends what your going to play if your going to do mostly pvp i recommend you start with monk

if your going do pve most used clases are sins next up would be rits,elemental,monks,mesmers, the least used are dervish paragons rangers

break down areas uses to farm per class are follows


1. Assasins (Sharrs of Orr)(Domain Of Anguish) VERY HARD must have tons xp and mostly max titles asuran norm sunspear nightbringer dwarfing vanguard (Underworld)(Fissure of Woe)(kathathrax)many other eye north dungeons

2.Rits (Domain Of Anguish)(Underworld)(Fissure of Woe) By far one fasted classes to beat all games with spirit spam builds easy beat all campaigns in fast times

3.Mesmer's (Domain Of Anguish)(Underworld)(Fissure of Woe)
also recomend you max aut most titles make all the ranks as high you can it help you get into good guilds and there uses a lot for mostly Domain Of Anguish Underworld

4.Monks (Domain Of Anguish)(Fissure of Woe) Very important max out sunspear and nightbringer points there also used for faction points farming
each title 10 million points

5.Elemental (Domain Of Anguish)(Underworld)

6.Necromancer (Domain Of Anguish) must be doasc guild to use(Underworld)
easy spike but mesmer much faster

7.Paragons (Frog Septor farming)forget the name of dungeon(Domain Of Anguish)(Urgoz)(Deep) most these done when your in guild very hard form
just standing in outpost

8.Warriors (Fissure of Woe) and few solo killing raptor farming and so on

9.Ranger (Domain Of Anguish)(Underworld) both these areas take alot personal consumables and a lot Experience

10.Dervishes (Fissure of Woe) they also used for running to other towns


hope this helpful to you ive being playing this game since beta so it takes time learn these the more you play better you get one most importation things to get gold to start out and making wrong class can set you back some time and gold

make sure get into nice guild to help you along the way
they mostly give free materials and wepons to help you get amors dont waist money fance armor to start wait till you at least save up 1 million to 2 million gold

gold huge boost to help you get runs for your heroes and yourself
remember now having good heroes will save you ton time when beating campaigns and sure you want beat them all rather fast once runed they can be used in hm missions dont have ask anyone for help

heroes you really need 3 necro 2 monks 1 rit 1 mesmer
these heroes you can also use many hm missions and doing vanquishing

I would like to say the following about the above post. If you are looking to play the game as a casual player not attempting to exploit the elite areas for farming, then pick any class. There is a bias towards certain builds in certain areas for very specific roles, having said that, each and every class is at the very least enjoyable to play with. Go with your gut instincts, use wiki as said above to read up a bit on each class and play through a campaign or two. You'll figure things out quickly once you have toyed with a class whether or not it fits your play style.

Juste concerning the classes.

Best answer : pick which ever has the playstyle you perfer.

Answer to be the best player possible : choose monk or war. Those are the least gimmicky classes and those with the "best" pvp. aka those who will make you the "best" player. (also, they're useful for the whole game, everywhere)

Answer to just enhoy proph the most : elem gives the best experience to jsut go throught proph nm, nothing special. Actually, for most chaper (in nm) they are the "best". Fun but efficient

Ritualist, It will breeze you through all the campaigns.
Spirit spammer is insanely powerful.

When you move to PvP you should start a PvP only character.

For all that matters, I love my warrior! It's a very fun class (I've been playing for quite some years and I've tried many different classes. The warrior is the only one that never gets boring for me). Being heavily armored helps if you want to tank in the most difficult areas and you're only playing with an NPC team as well. Also, Warrior equipment LOOKS GREAT!

All the classes are pretty balance, and since gimmick builds change according to the periodical patches/nerfs I wouldn't base my choice on them. Being a Minion Master is boring though. That's one thing for sure!

Mesmers are a really interesting class (and now they've been buffed to the point of being almost overpowered). If you like using your brain a lot even when you're playing a computer game than that's the class for you! Also useful for learning PvP

Anyway, what's important to understand is that builds are team-based. If your team have builds with bad synergies you can be any class you want and run any build you want on yourself and it won't change a thing: you'll just keep dying.

P.S. I also suggest you start from Nightfall if you want an easier and quicker time with the other campaigns.

best advice is don't read through the wiki and forums to find a cookie cutter build. you don't really learn the game as well and sometimes you end up being forced into playing one way. i learned that the hard way

My friend got me started on GW, before this I was a chronic WoW player, but I just got tired of it and dropped the account. For almost a year I played this off and on at my friend's house in an available slot. I doubt I got very far but I finally broke down and purchased the 3 pack myself at the beginning of September.

So far from what I know and been told, Night Fall is the most difficult. As for characters, I have found Necro/Monk is a very powerful combo. My primary is a Necro/Monk and my secondary is a Necro/Ritualist and my most recent build is a Dervish.

I plan to see if the price drops on EotN with the release of GW2 on the horizon. My friend says that I should wait because sometimes they will post specials and I could end up with a discount. I want to get my primary up to level 20 before I go into EotN anyway.

@ogicecream: There is no magic bullet to fly through any mmorpg they pretty much are the same in that aspect, and I wouldn't want to buy something that I could complete in less year time.
